The Key of Solomon the King or Key of Solomon “Clavicula Salomonis”, is a Pseudepigraphical, or falsely attributed Grimoire attributed to King Solomon. It probably dates back to the 14th or 15th century Italian Renaissance.
It is possible that the Key of Solomon inspired later works, particularly the 17th-century Grimoire also known as Clavicula Salomonis Regis, Lesser Key of Solomon or Lemegeton, although there are many differences between both Grimoires.
Several versions of the Key of Solomon exist, in various translations, with minor to significant differences. The original text was probably a Latin or Italian with most surviving manuscripts dating from the late 16th, 17th or 18th centuries. There is also an early Greek manuscript dating to the 15th century (Harleian MS. 5596) that is closely associated with the text.
As for the original translator of the Grimoire Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers, born Samuel Liddell Mathers, allegedly added MacGregor as a claim to a Highland heritage for which there is little other evidence, was an English occultist best remembered as a founder of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.
This edition has be re-formatted by the Editor of this edition. Images enlarged and placed in the correct textual places.
An interesting Grimoire for both the advanced practitioner and student.
