The Book of Decans.

Astrological decans represent a unique sub-division within each zodiac sign, effectively adding nuance to the traditional astrological understanding by dividing each 30-degree sign into three distinct 10-degree segments. This division allows astrologers to assign rulership of the decans to planets other than those traditionally governing the associated zodiac signs, thus offering further granularity in astrological interpretation. Each decan carries its own characteristics and influences, enhancing or altering the primary traits of the sun sign. The planetary ruler of each decan corresponds with a sequence that is defined by the elemental affinity connected to the respective zodiac sign—fire, earth, air, or water—thereby creating deeper layers within personal horoscopes. For instance, an Aries born early in their sign may manifest different dominant traits than one born closer to Taurus season due to Mars ruling their initial decan as opposed to Jupiter's influence on the second. 

So, the Decans are an ancient way of dividing the zodiac signs into three parts, each being ruled by a different planet. They were identified in Ancient Egypt and over time have been utilised to give more specific personality insights using the star position at birth. Each Decan will express approximately a 10-day duration of a sign, which is believed to have its own qualities and characteristics.

First Decans are thought to carry the purest expression of the energy of the sign that they fall into since they are ruled by the ruling planet of that sign. For example, the first Decan of Aries is ruled by Mars, the planet of action and aggression. Competitive, impulsive, and bold, this Decan truly carries the core traits of the Aries sign.

Each Decan was associated with a deity, furthering this concept into spiritual and religious dimensions. The Decans were believed to be influencing different spheres of one's life, such as health, wealth, and love. By studying the Decans, priests and astrologers would predict the future and offer some guidance to those individuals seeking answers about their fate.
